Simply Starcraft presents its first fan interview with Canadian eSports lover Jacqueline Geller! Continue to read on to see Jacqueline’s opinion on some eSports issues and how eSports is a big part of her life. Simply Starcraft: Alright so what’s your name?
Jacqueline: Jacqueline Geller
Simply Starcraft: Where are you living now and is eSports big around there?
Jacqueline: I am living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The local esports community isn’t big -especially compared to hockey-, but it is a tight-knit, active community. We have numerous events, for example, we have four this weekend alone: a League of Legends tournament, two BarCrafts and a restaurant BarCraft we call NoodleCraft. I’ve been attending successful, local tournaments and events for over a year now, and before the BarCraft movement and the big push for “local SC2,” Edmonton was really ahead of the curve.
Simply Starcraft: Do you play any games yourself?
Jacqueline: At the moment, I play LoL and SC2 casually. As cliché as it sounds, I’m incredibly busy and don’t have much time for games. I try to make a habit of going to the local LAN centre every few weeks to play games with friends, but when I’m at home, there’s just too much other stuff to work on or do.
Simply Starcraft: When did you start playing Starcraft? Did you play broodwar?
Jacqueline: I barely played SCBW, and it was only the campaign. I started playing maybe two months before the SC2 release, but I did also have a SC2 beta key which I tried out a handful of times with the help of friends. I played WarCraft2 back in the day and some WC3, but my RTS experience pre-SC2 was fairly limited.
For me, gaming has always been a social and casual activity, and I ended up going to the SC2 midnight launch because I knew my friends were going. I’ve been to three or four midnight launches, and they’re always really fun, even when it’s freezing outside in an artic winter.
Simply Starcraft: So what about eSports do you like over other physical sports?
Jacqueline: I wouldn’t necessarily say I like esports “over” traditional sports. They both have different quirks and charms, and anyone who values hard work, dedication and competition can appreciate them. I’ve always loved video games, and I love the tight-knit community aspect of esports. Read more »
